2014 NHF Annual Membership Meeting
June 14, 2014 @ 10:30 am - 4:00 pm
You are cordially invited to attend the Naval Historical Foundation’s Annual Membership Meeting on Saturday morning, June 14th 2014—Flag Day! Our David T. Leighton lecturer Steve Vogel of the Washington Post, author of the acclaimed Through the Perilous Fight: Six Weeks That Saved the Nation will speak to our membership. With this August marking the bicentennial of the British occupation and burning of the nation’s capital, Vogel’s talk promises to be entertaining and informative—and of great local interest.
Mr. Vogel will be introduced by Vice Admiral George Emery, a Cold War nuclear submarine veteran as well as a noted collector of historical naval documents of the early U.S. Navy era, many which are featured in the 2013 Naval Historical Foundation publication In Their Own Words. Both Vogel’s and Emery’s books will be available for sale at the event.
Vice Admiral Emery will open the proceedings at 10:30 am on June 14th in the Cold War Gallery (bldg 70) at the Washington Navy Yard. Following Mr. Vogel’s talk, our chairman Admiral Bruce DeMars will preside over the Foundation’s Annual Meeting. A luncheon will follow. David and Ginger Hildebrand of the Colonial Music Institute will offer 1812-era patriotic maritime chanteys for our listening enjoyment.
Attendees will sing the National Anthem in the U.S. Navy Museum as a lead-in to the 4pm RAISE IT UP! event that the Smithsonian Institution is holding the same day.
