You are cordially invited to attend the Naval Historical Foundation’s Annual Membership Meeting on Saturday morning, June 20th, 2015 at the historic Washington Navy Yard. In celebration of this year’s centennial of the Navy Reserve, the annual David T. Leighton lecture will be presented at the meeting by our own Dr. Dave Winkler, author of the acclaimed Ready Then, Ready Now, Ready Always: More Than a Century of Service by Citizen Sailors. Dr. Winkler’s talk will be entertaining and informative as he discusses how the NHF took a lead role in the production of an outstanding, well-illustrated book—which will be available for purchase! Please RSVP not later than June 12th.

Refreshments will be available starting at 10:30 am in the Navy Museum’s Cold War Gallery (Bldg. 70) at the Washington Navy Yard. Dr. Winkler will kick off the proceedings at 11:00 am, and following that Leighton lecture, our chairman Admiral Bruce DeMars will preside over the Foundation’s brief Annual Meeting. A buffet luncheon will follow!

Due to new access regulations for entry to the Washington Navy Yard, members who do not hold DoD credentials (i.e. Retired or Active Military ID cards, or Government CAC cards) will have to go through a vetting process. When you RSVP that you will attend the meeting, we will send you a form by mail or email that you must fill out, sign, and return to us by mail or email not later than Friday, June 12th . The Navy Yard security office will run your information through a database and then you will be on the access list at the gate for that day. On weekends the only gate open at the Navy Yard is the 11th and O St. gate; we will provide you with detailed instructions and a map for getting to the meeting! Those who already possess the credentials named above need merely display one of those ID cards in order to be waved through the gate; and without any further screening, you serve as an authorized escort for any guests in your car who don’t have those IDs. If this is confusing, don’t worry—we’ll take care of you! For access questions, call NHF office manager Frank Arre at 202-678-4333 extension 3, or email him at [email protected].
