Author on Deck at the Navy Memorial – Damn Few: Making the Modern Seal Warrior with Rorke Denver
February 20, 2013 @ 6:30 pm
As part of the United States Navy Memorial’s “Authors on Deck” book lecture series, former U.S. Navy SEAL trainer, star of the 2012 box-office hit Act of Valor and author Rorke Denver will present his first work, DAMN FEW: Making the Modern SEAL Warrior (Hyperion, February 2013). In his book, Denver speaks with unparalleled knowledge and candor about the recruiting and training of our nation’s most elite warriors, providing first-hand accounts from his own experiences and an entirely new perspective to readers.
Drawing from his own extensive background in SEAL training and years of overseas missions, Denver details how SEALs’ creative operations have become front and center in America’s War on Terror and how they are altering warfare everywhere. In addition, he strives to offer lessons that go far beyond the battlefield for a fresh generation of warriors.
In his fourteen years as a U.S. Navy SEAL officer, LIEUTENANT COMMANDER RORKE DENVER has led 200 commando missions all over the world, earning the Bronze Star with “V” for valorous action in combat. Rorke has also served as flag aide to the admiral in charge and spent the past four years as executive officer of the Navy Special Warfare Center’s Advanced Training Command in Coronado, California, directing all phases of basic and advanced SEAL training. He recently starred in the film Act of Valor (2012), inspired by true U.S. Navy SEAL missions.
Following the presentation, Denver will be available for a Q&A session and book signing.
