OpSail 2012 – Norfolk

OpSail2012In 2012, Operation Sail will once again bring the glory of tall ships to the American seaboard to celebrate the bicentennial of our nation anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner.

On June 22, 1807, the HMS Leopard boarded and then fired on the USS Chesapeake. Known as The Chesapeake affair, the HMS Leopard’s unprovoked attack provoked an already restless nation.
